vinyl decals

seems everyone is selling vinyl decals these days, right?
they can be really cool or really farty...just depends on how you use them!
we found a fabulous source on etsy...circlelinestudios
they will take any of their designs and customize them just for you!

I had some blank canvases in my basement that needed a home.
I painted them up
and ordered a custom sized design to fit the canvas...
fun, huh?

remember those album frames from Restoration Hardware...circa 1999?
I have a bunch of those sitting in my basement as well...

went to papersource in search of
some fun wrapping paper to use for this project...
had circlelinestudios create vinyl numbers
(this happens to be my anniversary)
this project was done while two toddlers took a short nap...easy!

tackling bookshelves

we're always doing it...  These bookshelves (featured in Lonny ) are just a few of our favorite inspirations.

okay, i know this one is a little creepy thanks to the swimming (drowning) chic, but focus.  Look at the way the color scheme of the bookshelf mimics the art.  Kind of clever, right?

dump lamps done!

funny how a little february vaca can interfere in our projects!
no treks to home goods or salvation army,
no swinging through the dump hut,
no spray painting while the kids are at school...
so now that the kids are back in school...

the dump lamps are done!

remember they used to look like this?

they were sprayed with krylon fusion in dover white...
and then topped off with krylon triple thick crystal clear glaze.
the shade is from home goods...
a fantastic deal on that one...

R.I.P. Fernando!

last fall, garnish interiors spotted an unusual vintage chair named Fernando
on the craigslist free section.

we took a loooong road trip out to acton, ma
to rescue Fernando from the basement of a tired, old house.
from the photos, Fernando looked huge...
but when when the owner brought him up from the basement,
Fernando was a petite chair...too little to stand alone.

we tried him at carolyn's house...he was laughed into the garage.
then, I took him to my house...gave him a fresh coat (or 5 coats!) of glossy, white paint.
Contemplated spending the money to have his cushion recovered...
but decided to live with him as is for a while.
I tried to make him fit in here...he was in the kitchen, family room and
finally ended up in the office with a fabulous pillow.
In the end, I made the very sad decision that Fernando had to go.
on a random Tuesday afternoon, I put him on craigslist for free.
within 20 minutes, I had over 30 responses.
people begging me to be the new owner of Fernando.
I finally picked a nice guy who promised to pick him up right away.
Fernando is now in a new apartment in Brighton...beer stained....
but having the time of his life!
goodbye, Fernando!

feeling Springy...

And getting tired of the "muted" colors throughout the family room.  Looking to bring some Spring into the decor...
in the name of pink and orange!
Nabbed these little seats at the Salvation Army...great for extra seating and love the orange!
See that rug??  Pretty, but lots of red, gold and persimmon...and very busy pattern.   Just not crazy about the floor being the main focal point of the room.  So...it's getting a new home in the master bedroom.

In its place, this nice neutral grey rug from Home Depot!   A great deal...it could be ordered in different sizes and three different colors.  The big 10'x13' I ordered was just under $300 and delivered for free to my doorstep.
Grey/Ivory and Gold/Ivory
(also comes in Brown)

Had some pink greek key fabric on hand so whipped up a couple of pillows...

Worked a little magic on a pair of $6.00 Ikea pillow covers with
some orange grosgrain ribbon and Stitch Witchery (new BF).   The only tricky part was the mitered corners, but basically anybody with an iron can do this!

Finished up the week by gluing on some hot pink ribbon trim to new chandelier shades...

It's starting to feel much Spring'ier!!  More pictures to come as the room comes together!

it's over...

it is about a week until march begins.
our thoughts turn to melting snow,
daffodils popping up,
pastel colors and easter.

but everywhere we look,
we still see this
and not the fresh version...
the dried up and saggy version.
Bow faded and falling off,
the greens are now brown.
How can you walk in and out
of your front door for two months
and not notice a dried up piece of forestry hanging from your door?
When you back out of your driveway,
do you take a good, hard look at your house?
What are you doing?
Take your Christmas decor down!
Christmas is over people...
it's over!

bye-bye blank walls!

A new obsession of ours is this vintage printables website.  There's NO excuse for empty walls folks, not when you can scroll through hundreds of free pictures and print them right from your own printer.  Everybody has frames kicking around the house, otherwise head to Ikea for some inexpensive ones.  If you can, use a heavier weight paper for printing and there you have it...art!

Wouldn't these three look great in a beach house...maybe a guest bathroom??  Hmmm, perfect for a bathroom with oil rubbed bronze faucets and finishes.  Spray some old picture frames with this

and accent away with pretty pinkish purple.   Lovely.

lamp progress...

making progress on the dump lamp!

a quick trip to the wellesley ace hardware
to pick up krylon fusion (sticks to glass!)

the color selections were pretty limited -
primary colors, white, off white or gray...bleh.

with a 2 year old running through the aisles,
had to make a quick decision...dover white!

i am thinking it's looking a lot like milk glass - agree?
going to spray the other one tonight...
my house is full of spray paint fumes!
looking for some simple drum shades -
wrap them in fabric and ribbon trim - done!

stay tuned!

found @ the dump!

it has been slim pickins at the needham dump boutique...
until last friday!

check out our latest project!

grandma's cut glass ginger jar lamps are a little farty for our taste
but just you wait and see what we have in store for these lamps!
we can't decide...spray paint the glass a fabulous color...
or pour some latex paint into the bottom of the lamp -
maybe silver to make it look like mercury glass -
or even white to make it look like milk glass.
finish them off with simple drum shades - add some grosgrain trim...
fantastic addition to bedside tables!
finished product coming soon!

so sewfisticated!

one of our favorite pastimes is looking at fabric...
we can spend hours online searching through all the fabric sites...
we can't get enough!
last fall, sewfisticated fabrics opened in framingham...
sort of in the ghetto area...
but that is what makes it so exciting to go there!

it's like the tj maxx of fabric stores...
designer fabrics and trims at deep, deep discounts!

let's take a look...shall we?

amy butler, joel dewberry and valerie wells...$4.99 a yard!

and if that wasn't enough to make you jump in your car and start driving to framingham....
can you spy thomas paul for a mere $4.99 a yard?
how could you not buy at least just one yard of each just for kicks?
dec pillows, dining chairs, grandma's wingback...can you stand it? $4.99?

and end of the bolt fabrics are just $1.99 a yard...what?
yeah, you heard us...$1.99...more thomas paul...just $1.99!
inventory changes everyday...
so if you see it and you love it...you must buy it!
we will see you there!

flowering plants...please!

Here in the Boston area we seem to be living in a real life snow globe...just when we're done shoveling out,  a new blizzard comes to town...

Buzzing through TJ Maxx yesterday I came across these great chunky grey planter baskets in the clearance aisle.   I had visions of Spring and all the pretty flowering plants I could plop in them...and at $3.50 to $5.00...why not?  They'd also be a great added touch to a housewarming or hostess gift, instead of just a plain old plant.  Plenty left...go get em!

free and fabulous!

don't ever skip the free listings on craigslist...
some of our best finds have been free!
check out this baby...
bring her back to life with some high gloss paint...
shine up that fabulous brass hardware...
we are in love!
